Credit card debt is cited five times more often than other types of problem debt; Using credit for essential living expenses is the top cause of debt, cited by 18% of bankrupt consumers, and more than 3 in 4 respondents say debt is affecting their mental health.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Jan. 17, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Sands & Associates, BC’s licensed liquidators, today released the full results of the 2021 BC Consumer Debt Study. This unique annual study surveyed over 1,700 consumers across the province who had filed personal bankruptcy or legally consolidated debt with a consumer application and provides an opportunity to better understand some of the many aspects of the financial challenges faced by British Columbians .

According to Blair Mantin, President and Licensed Bankruptcy Practitioner of Sands & Associates, “Consumers can often lull themselves into thinking their debt isn’t ‘too high,’ not realizing how easily problematic debt can get out of hand or how everyday challenges can make people face unimaginable financial difficulties and overwhelming stress.”

The BC Consumer Debt Study 2021 BC Consumer Debt Study not only highlighted the causes of problem debt and how it impacts individuals, but also identified notable trends in consumer debt habits:

  • The highest proportion of respondents (32%) reported having between $25,000 and $49,999 in debt (excluding vehicle/mortgage loans) when they began a formal debt cancellation process.
    • Nearly 30% of those who requested a legal debt relief rated their credit rating as “good” to “excellent” at the time of their debt restructuring.
  • 4 of the 5 most commonly reported root causes of debt could be described as being beyond a person’s control:
    • 18% said their debt was caused by using credit that could not cover essential living expenses.
    • Next came the direct top causes of debt, which were attributed to illness, injury, or health problems (10%), marital or relationship breakdown (8%), and work problems (8%).

  • Less than a third (28%) of respondents overall saw their debt problems as being driven by over-borrowing due to general financial mismanagement.

More than 56% of all consumers surveyed said credit card debt was the top type of debt they had when they began a formal debt resolution, far surpassing other reported types of debt — tax debt (11%) and lines of credit (10%). .

  • The use of ‘last resort’ financing continues to grow, with high-priced financing such as payday or installment loans (9%) taking the fourth place among the most commonly reported types of consumer debt.
    • Payday loans were the primary type of debt for about 6% of consumers surveyed in the 2020 study and 5% for 2019.

Participants reported that debt affected their well-being in a number of ways, including:

  • 77% said their mental health had suffered, 53% said their physical health had suffered.
  • Constant worry about debt was reported by more than 4 in 5 people and anxiety by more than 3 in 4 people.
  • About 1 in 6 respondents said the stress of debt caused them to have suicidal thoughts or thoughts.

When asked how they knew their debt was becoming a problem:

  • Over two-thirds (68%) of respondents said overwhelming stress was the main indicator of their debt problem.
  • Almost 60% said making minimum payments is an important warning sign, and 50% said debt levels remain almost the same despite making payments each month.

Only 5% of consumers said they immediately sought professional debt help, with the majority being put off for reasons such as:

  • Want to manage debt themselves (63%).
  • Ashamed of not being able to deal with the debt they have incurred (51%), ashamed of asking for help (50%).

Actress Elnaaz Norouzi says she has had to contend with many prejudices so far in her career.

Actress Elnaaz Norouzi rose to fame when she played the role of an aspiring actor on the web show Sacred games. With so much recognition for the show, it must have turned things around for her. But this is not the case.

“Of course people remember me from that show. But even if they think Sacred Games opened the way for me and opened all doors for me, it hasn’t. I always feel like there has been a lot of struggle. It’s not like there’s no struggle right now, ”she tells us.

The 29-year-old admits it was a “good thing to start”, but people still weren’t sure if she was going to start it. “Was that my voice, did I dub it, can I speak Hindi, can I act… sometimes people would say, ‘It was a good show that she was a part of, that does not mean that she is good herself ”. There are perceptions. I don’t know if that’s what they were saying, that’s what I think. Obviously, it didn’t rain any movies and series after that. Yes, that opened doors for me, I was able to meet a lot of people who then said ‘okay, we didn’t think she could play, she can really speak in Hindi’ ”, recalls Norouzi, who went on to star in web shows such as as Chutzpa and Abhay.

Now the fight has started to improve, in his words. Does the perception that “she is from outside India and will not be able to speak Hindi” proving to be a big obstacle for her?

The actor, to see in the second season of the international Emmy-winning show Tehran, said, “I guess at the beginning, yes. At the moment, that has changed a lot. I auditioned for everything I did. I get a lot of feedback from people who tell me “you speak better than Indians sometimes”! It’s good to know.

Former Indian cricketer Dilip Doshi believes Indian team’s ‘mystery’ spinner Varun Chakravarthy should be rested for the team’s crucial upcoming T20 World Cup games after his uninspiring performance in the opening match.

The comments come after India’s 10 wicket loss to Pakistan when they met in the Super 12 on October 24 in Dubai. While no pitcher has failed to make an impression, several pundits have harshly criticized Chakravarthy, who conceded 33 points in his fate spell.

Speaking in an interview with Sportskeeda, Doshi, a former left arm spinner, commented that while Chakravarthy did well in the IPL, including ending up as the biggest wicket taker in the UAE leg of the IPL 2021, he is still an untested launcher internationally.

“International cricket is very different from IPL. It has done very well for the Kolkata Knight Riders over the past two seasons, but still has not been tested internationally. He should be resting for the crucial games. On the grounds of the UAE, especially in Sharjah, you need spinners who can pull the hitters forward. Our spinners clearly failed to do that against Pakistan. They won so comfortably because the Indian spinners made them play with the back foot and run away, ”said Doshi.

In addition, he said that India led by Virat Kohli lacks the services of its most successful T20I launcher to date, Yuzvendra Chahal.

“I disagree with the coaches. Chahal has a proven track record for India. Furthermore, a spinner’s success depends on his ability to lead hitters forward,” said Doshi.

India will face New Zealand in their second game of the tournament. Both teams will enter the match after losing to Pakistan. The Black Caps lost a fierce match on October 26 against 5 wickets in Sharjah.

Lift film review: Kavin plays a computer scientist caught in an elevator who does not wish to cooperate.

Kavin’s Lift, which came out straight on Disney + Hotstar, is one of those horror movies that you don’t mind at first. With its promising premise of a haunted elevator, it attempts to exceed the low expectations set by Tamil cinema in the genre. It starts off strong, presenting itself as a unique horror film, deviating from the clichés associated with horror films. Sadly, the movie goes off the rails after just half an hour and gets repetitive in terms of thrills and ends on a very predictable note.

Watch the Lift trailer:

The story introduces us to Guru (Kavin), an IT professional, who has just been transferred from Bangalore to Chennai. It’s his first day on the job and he spends most of the day getting to know his colleagues. When he meets Harini, the company’s HR manager (Amritha), we are told that they share an unpleasant past. Towards the end of the day, Guru is given the responsibility of completing a project summary for a client and stands back to complete the task. However, when he gets ready to leave, he experiences paranormal events. When he gets in the elevator to go down to the parking lot, he realizes that he keeps coming back to the same floor. The rest of the film is about finding out the reasons for these strange events.

The elevator relies mainly on the fears of jumping, the lowest fruit when it comes to making horror movies. It spends a lot of time building a big reveal, but it’s never impressive or horrible enough. The backstory of IT work culture and its challenges could have been a better core for the story than the Haunted Elevator.

One of the strengths of the film is its unique location. Since the entire movie takes place inside a building and mostly inside an elevator, the movie manages to create a sense of claustrophobia among viewers. Another highlight is Kavin’s convincing performance. As a helpless guy trying to protect himself from the paranormal, he brings out fear quite effectively. Amritha Iyer is just as good in the limited time she gets onscreen.

Lift could have been a pioneer in the horror genre. Unfortunately, there is little to rent.

Hiphop Tamizha Adhi is the kind of actor who doesn’t take his films seriously and neither do the audiences. Sivakumarin Sabadham is another film that relies heavily on some insane comedy and a very predictable plot about a reckless youngster who finds purpose in his life.

Adhi plays Sivakumar, who comes from a renowned family of silk weavers in Kanchipuram; a family that once wove saris for kings. But the family legacy has died down over the years, and Siva’s grandfather Varadharajan is the last of his kind, struggling to make ends meet. Varadharajan thinks that Siva will do nothing with his life if he stays in Kanchipuram. Therefore, he sends her to stay in Chennai with her uncle Murugan, who is married to the daughter of the wealthy owner of a textile showroom, Chandrasekaran. Varadharajan and Chandrasekaran, who have worked together before, have a history between them and when Siva learns of it, he vows to reclaim his family’s lost heritage.

Watch the Sivakumarin Sabadham trailer here:

In an otherwise predictable story about romance, friendship, and family, the backdrop of the weavers of Kanchipuram brings much-needed drama to keep viewers engaged. The intention to shine the spotlight on the lives of silk weavers is laudable, but the film could have used this subplot even more effectively. The film changes gears and gets a little serious in the second half but fails to maintain the tone to leave a lasting impact.

Kathir and Rahul, who rose to fame with pranks on YouTube, shine throughout the film and keep it from taking the plunge when the story takes a back seat. Some comedic footage is just plain silly, but if you’re someone who consumes a lot of content on YouTube, you’d smile and have a good time. As an actor, Adhi is well aware of his limitations and he plays with his strengths. Even as a filmmaker, he delivers what is expected of him from his target audience, which is mostly college students.

Raame Aandalum from director Arisil Moorthy Ravanan Aandalum (Ra Ra), which is the first title in Amazon Prime Video’s recently announced collaboration with Suriya’s 2D Entertainment, is a socio-political satire set in a village. The film has the heart of Anusha Rizvi’s Peepli Live, but still functions as an original rural drama about the events following the disappearance of two beloved bulls. Maintaining a predominantly satirical tone, Ra Ra manages to raise a few pertinent questions without getting too serious. It strikes a nice balance between satire and drama.

The film follows Kunnimuthu, a farmer, and his wife Veerayi, who lose their bulls, Karuppan and Velaiyan, whom they looked after like their own children. Kunnimuthu loses all hope of getting them back. When we learn that a local politician could be involved in their disappearance, the story takes a political detour with multiple twists and turns.

Watch Raame Aandalum Ravanan Aandalum Trailer Here:

Arisil Moorthy made a confident debut and established himself as a filmmaker with a voice and a purpose. It goes beyond the entertainment factor to give us a relatable story featuring characters we can empathize with. Located in a small village without basic amenities like electricity and clean water, it’s a story of hope and development – on one side there are the villagers and on the other, the politicians greedy. By taking a satirical position, the film manages to dig directly into the current political scenario. Fortunately, he never exaggerates in his attempt to talk about the broken system we live in.

Newbie Mithun Manickam in the film’s lead role is a solid find and brings out his character’s helplessness quite convincingly. He’s a natural and he plays his character with unparalleled sensitivity. Ramya Pandian, in the limited time she has onscreen, makes an impression. Vani Bhojan as a fearless journalist is the stage thief in the second half, as she vows to shine the spotlight on corrupt politicians. Realistic locations play a vital role in enhancing the overall viewing experience.

It takes a lot of courage for a mainstream actor like Jayasurya to have no qualms about doing a project like Sunny, largely a one-man show, like his 100th film. If not more, Jayasurya deserves praise purely for the intent behind making Sunny, a hard-hitting film about the importance of taking mental health seriously. Director Ranjith Sankar’s film, set in the midst of the pandemic, explains how isolation can hurt you.

Jayasurya plays Sunny, who has just returned from Dubai to Kerala. On the way to the hotel where he has to quarantine himself for two weeks, he burns his passport, which makes us wonder if everything is fine with him. He moved into the hotel’s luxury suite and soon began to drown in alcohol. As we spend more time with Sunny, the only character in the film except for a few other fleeting appearances, we get to know her issues – from her marriage on the verge of falling apart to having to. a lot of money to his partner. To top it off, the isolation is damaging to his sanity. He begins to have suicidal thoughts and the rest of the story is about how he fights his inner demons and comes out of them a reformed man.

Watch Sunny’s trailer here:

As the world continues to return to normal, watching Sunny is unsettling. The film takes its time to make us feel invested in Sunny’s story, but the relatively short duration plays in the film’s favor and keeps it engaging. Nothing groundbreaking happens in the movie, but some simple stories can leave a lasting impact when told the way they’re meant to be, and Sunny is a good example of that.

Sunny works more as a psychological drama-thriller. He deals with the subject of mental health in a very sensitive way and does not trivialize Sunny’s drinking problem. Jayasurya is effective in bringing out the helplessness of her character. It’s a moving performance because Sunny internalizes most of her emotions.

Saif Ali Khan spoke about the difference between his characters in Sacred Games and the Vikram Vedha remake. He plays a cop in both projects.

Saif Ali Khan, who will be seen playing a cop in the Hindi remake of Vikram Vedha, has tried out the role of a police officer in Netflix’s holy games. While the actor has yet to share details on the character, he said the role was very different from Sartaj Singh of Sacred Games.

The actor played a policeman pushed around by his elders in Sacred Games. On the verge of giving up his life, he receives a call from Ganesh Gaitonde (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui) and learns that he has only 25 days to save Mumbai from disaster.

Speaking of the differences, Saif called Sartaj a victim who was driven away by almost everyone. “I would say Sartaj Singh was sort of a victim, who would get slapped by almost anyone. His ascent went from a mildly suicidal space to something else. He was a confused and honest guy, ”he told Pinkvilla.

“Vikram, on the other hand, is a very tough, efficient and intelligent type of IPS officer. He is much more dynamic, confident and strong. Moreover, Vikram does not have a turban, ”he added.

Vikram Vedha also stars Hrithik Roshan. The actor will play a gangster in the film, which is a remake of the hit Tamil neo-noir film and starred R Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead roles. Pushkar and Gayathri, who directed the original, will also direct the Hindi remake.

Saif was last seen in Bhoot Police. After the outing, the actor, his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor and their sons – Taimur and Jeh – traveled to the Maldives for a vacation. They returned from their trip Thursday evening.

Punjab Kings head coach Anil Kumble expressed disappointment after his side suffered a two-point loss to the Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday in the 2021 Indian Premier League meeting. Needing four points to win In the final with eight wickets in hand, PBKS missed two points as young racer Kartik Tyagi picked two wickets and threw three points balls.

Kumble, speaking at the virtual post-match press conference, noted that this was not the first time Punjab had lost a game in the finals, and said the team should have finished the match before the final.

Read also : “By the time I got in shape, the tournament was put on hold”: Kartik Tyagi on battles with injuries at Indian stage of IPL 2021

“It’s kind of become a role model for us, especially as soon as we get to Dubai, it seems. There was a clear message that we have to finish this game in 19 overs, and that was the approach, “Kumble said.

“Unfortunately we left it until the end, and in the last two balls it becomes a lottery (with) a new batsman coming in, it’s a bit of a lottery,” he added.

Kumble then praised Tyagi for his efforts which won the match for his team.

“But thanks to the way Tyagi played last time around, it was pretty obvious he was going to play wide outside of the strain, but our hitters didn’t take the right options.

“Yes, it’s become a model, it’s something that we have to discuss and sort out. We still have five games, but again, we don’t want to get bogged down in this loss. It is certainly a difficult pill to swallow, ”he concluded.

Thiago was substituted in the second half of the 3-0 win over Crystal Palace and assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders has said he will miss Tuesday’s League Cup game at Norwich City and Saturday’s league game at Brentford .

Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara will miss the next two matches after sustaining a calf injury at the weekend, the Premier League club announced on Monday.

Thiago was substituted in the second half of the 3-0 win over Crystal Palace and assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders said he would miss Tuesday’s League Cup game at Norwich City and Saturday’s league game at Brentford .

“I can’t say now how long it will take, but certainly not tomorrow and not this weekend,” Lijnders said on the club’s website.

“Let’s get the results of the analysis and we have a correct diagnosis. Too bad also because he took the game by the hand, he was a good playmaker in my opinion. Too bad we miss him.”

Thiago is the second midfielder Liverpool have lost to injury in recent games after Harvey Elliott broke his ankle against Leeds United and required surgery.

Right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold will also miss the third round match at Norwich with illness as the game comes too early for forward Robert Firmino who returns to training this week after a hamstring injury .
