Marcos Rojo may have learned of his Manchester United exit at the same time as the public, a report suggests.

Rojo left Man United for good on Tuesday after breaking officially joined the Argentinian club Boca Juniors. But while his departure from Old Trafford is true, pre-move events may differ from what is published.

Apparently, Rojo was “still waiting” for the Red Devils to make a decision on his contract, with the club having the option to extend for another 12 months. ESPN reported citing unnamed sources. But while waiting to hear from them, Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suddenly announced publicly in January that the club had already approved the defender’s departure, insiders said.

“Jesse’s loan deal is probably running, Marcos is probably going back to Argentina – a bit of paperwork still needs to be done,” Solskjaer said called last month in a media conference. “Sergio [Romero], heard nothing from there. “

The report also noted that United said in a statement that it received an “undisclosed fee” for Rojo’s transfer which was paid in 2014 by then-Man United manager Louis van Gaal for £ 16m ($ 22m) The year-old’s contract was terminated by “mutual consent” before he finally moved to Boca.

In March 2018, the Red Devils handed Rojo a three-year contract with an option for an additional year. A veteran of Old Trafford, he had been with United since August 2014, after joining from Portuguese first division club Sporting Lisbon. However, the Argentine struggled to find opportunities and has not played for Solskjaer since November 2019.

Rojo spent the second half of last season on loan with his first club, Estudiantes, and left the Red Devils after a total of 122 appearances, including both the 2016 FA Cup final and the 2017 League Cup final.

Regardless of how things really went regarding his departure from United, Rojo thanked the Premier League club and the fans all in one heartfelt contribution on his official Instagram account after signing with Boca.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Manchester United who have helped me over the past 6 years,” wrote Rojo. “Since arriving in 2014, I’ve always felt privileged to be part of this incredible club with so much history.”

“Thanks to all the fans for always supporting me when I wore the Manchester United shirt,” he continued. “This is the beginning of a new chapter in my career, but I will always have Manchester United in my heart.”
