Meghan Markle will join Prince Harry on a trip to the Invictus Games
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex at the Invictus Games in Holland next week, on their first trip outside the US since leaving the Royal Family.
Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex would be followed by a Netflix documentary crew throughout the Games, which kick off next Saturday.
The couple’s decision to attend the event in The Hague has been lambasted by palace insiders after Harry claimed it was ‘too dangerous’ to travel to the UK, Mirror reports.
He is locked in a legal battle with the British government over a decision to downgrade his security and did not attend the memorial service for his grandfather Prince Philip on March 29.
Ken Wharfe, a former Met officer who once protected Harry, said: “I am puzzled as to why Harry thinks he would be safer in the Netherlands than in the UK.
“He would have traveled to his grandfather’s memorial service with his brother or father and received Met protection. It’s not like he showed up at Westminster Abbey on a bike.
“It’s riskier to go to Holland to support a charity with a military connection than to come to London last week.”
A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan reportedly said: ‘We take action based on the level of security threat.
Since ditching their royal roles to seek ‘financial independence’, Meghan, 40, and Harry, 37, have signed deals with Netflix and Spotify worth over £100million.
The couple, who now live in California with children Archie, two, and Lilibet, 10 months, are due to arrive in Holland on Friday.

Meghan could join Harry on stage at the opening ceremony of the Games, with insiders promising “a big surprise to kick off the event”.
A source said: “Meghan is delighted to be traveling with Harry for the event, which is certainly close to his heart.”
The couple made their very first official appearance together at the Toronto Games in 2017.
The event took place in the area as Meghan lived there filming the hit TV show Suits. The casually dressed couple went to a tennis event.
