Football: Times finalized for Maranacook and Waterville eight-man state title games

AUGUSTA – The Maranacook football team will face Dexter in the eight-player Small States Championship game on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland.

Waterville, meanwhile, will face Cheverus at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the eight-player State Championship game, also at Fitzpatrick Stadium.

The Black Bears (5-3), seeded fifth in the Little South Division, beat No.4 Old Orchard Beach, No.1 Telstar and No.2 Dirigo to reach the national final. Maranacook beat his opponent 146-41 in the playoffs. Dexter, the No. 3 seed of the Little North, beat his opponents 133-52 in the playoffs.

The Purple Panthers, meanwhile, are heading for the big state championship game as the North seed. They ousted Mount Desert Island and Morse in the regional playoffs. Waterville will face a Cheverus side that has not been scored since the first half of an October 1 game at Mount Ararat. The Stags and Purple Panthers are in their first seasons of competitive eight-a-side football.

Tickets for the games are $ 10 for adults, $ 5 for seniors / students.
