Army Chief congratulates Indian Army participants in XXII Commonwealth Games 2022

By GDP Delhi

In the recently concluded XXII Commonwealth Games 2022, the sportsmen of the Indian Army performed extremely well winning four gold medals, one silver and three bronze. The individual medalists are Naib Subedar Jeremy Lalrinnunga (gold) and Havildar Achinta Sheuli (gold) in weightlifting, Subedar Deepak Punia (gold) and Recruit Havildar Deepak Nehra (bronze) in wrestling, Subedar Amit Panghal, VSM (gold) and Subedar Mohammad Hussamuddin (Bronze) in Boxing and Naib Subedar Avinash Sable (Silver) & Subedar Sandeep Kumar (Bronze) in Athletics.

It is indeed a commendable feat that out of 18 Indian Army participants in the Commonwealth Games team, eight sportsmen have won medals for India. These medals are the result of a carefully planned and supported “Olympic Mission Programme” by the Indian Army, which has been designed and implemented since the year 2001.

Upon the team’s return to India, General Manoj Pande, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and senior officers from Army HQ congratulated and interacted with the sportsmen at an exclusive reception organized in Delhi Cantt on August 10, 2022.

Addressing the sportsmen, the Army Chief acknowledged their outstanding performance and remarked that the participants from the Indian Army are true role models for the nation. COAS said their individual performances made the Indian Army and the entire nation proud. He also wished them the best for all upcoming events. The army chief congratulated the participants by presenting them with congratulatory cards and cash incentives. Medalists will also receive out-of-tour promotions as per current policy.
